MANHATTAN, Kan. – Former Wildcat Terrell Smith will represent Team USA at the North America, Central America and Caribbean Athletics Association (NACAC) Senior Championships this weekend at Varsity Stadium in Toronto, Canada, as athletes from 31 countries compete from August 10-12.
Â
Smith, a native of Vicksburg, Mississippi, is set to compete for Team USA in the Athletics Canada men's 200-meter qualification round on Friday at 10:40 a.m. CT, with the subsequent semifinals taking place at 8:00 p.m., on Friday, and the finals taking place on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.
Â
Smith is just one of 93 individuals representing Team USA at the NACAC Track and Field Championships, after earning a qualifying bid by placing second at the USA Championships in Des Moines, Iowa on June 24. He set a new school record at the meet, running 20.44 in the qualifying round, before running a 20.74 in the event finals, despite rainy conditions. Smith is joined by fellow Big 12 sprinter Andrew Hudson (Texas Tech) as the two representatives of Team USA in the men's 200 meters.
Â
During the 2018 season, Smith became the first Wildcat in program history to earn outdoor All-America honors in the men's 200 meters after placing 16th at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in June. He also earned a pair of second-place finishes at the Big 12 Outdoor Championships, finishing second in the 100 meters and 200 meters. Throughout his K-State career, Smith broke both the school records in the indoor and outdoor 200 meters.
