
Cross Country Earns Ten Spots on Academic All-Big 12 Teams

IRVING, Texas. – The Kansas State men's and women's cross country teams secured ten spots on the Academic All-Big 12 Cross country team, including seven first-team selections, the conference announced on Thursday morning (October 31).
Sophomores Ethan Powell and Cooper Schroeder and freshmen Kerby Depenbusch and David Lutgen all received first team honors for the men's team, while junior Travis Hodge, sophomore Dylan Brennman and freshman Mike Rohlinger brought home second-team honors.
Sophomores Alex Ferguson and Cayli Hume and senior Anna Keeley would notch first-team honors for the women's team to round out the selections for K-State.
Powell, Hodge, Brenneman, Keeley and Hume have now earned multiple honors on the Academic All-Big 12 teams for their collegiate careers, while Lutgen, Depenbusch, Schroeder, Rohlinger and Ferguson all earned the honor for the first time in their careers.
Ferguson, Hume and Powell each posted a 4.0 GPA during the semester, as Powell and Hume have now earned back-to-back seasons with a 4.0 GPAs. Throughout the Big 12, 22 honorees claimed a 4.0 grade point average with West Virginia leading the conference with five student-athletes.
In all, 155 selections were placed on the Academic All-Big 12 teams, seven more than last season's total at 148. To earn a spot on the All-Big 12 First Team, individuals must post a 3.20 GPA or better, while a 3.0 to 3.19 GPA places a student-athlete on the All-Big 12 Second Team.
To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 20 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
The Wildcats head down to Waco, Texas to compete in the 24th Big 12 Championship on Saturday, November 2 at the Cottonwood Creek Golf Course. Races begin at 10 a.m., CT. For more information on the Big 12 Championship on Saturday, click here.
