MANHATTAN, Kan. – The Kansas State men's and women's cross country teams will begin postseason competition this weekend, as both squads head to Stillwater, Oklahoma for the NCAA Midwest Regional Championships at the OSU Cross Country Course.

The women's 6k race will start at 10:30 a.m., CT on Friday with the men's 10k race following an hour later at 11:30 a.m. CT. Fans can watch via FloTrack at FloTrack.org, while results will be available at okstate.com.

"We are looking forward to another highly competitive race," said head coach Ryun Godfrey. "The team has been working very hard for this one! I'm impressed with their commitment. They are a young group, but they prepare as a veteran group would do so. The future is very bright for both the men and women teams!"

Iowa State has dominated the regionals meet the last two years, winning back-to-back titles in both the men's and women's races.

During the 2018 NCAA Midwest Regionals in Peoria, Illinois, both K-State squads earned top-20 finishes, as the men's team finished 17th with 502 points, while the women's team earned an 18th-place finish with 487 points. Sophomore Cooper Schroeder paced all Wildcats in the 10k meet with a 68th place-finish with a time of 32:25.8, while former Wildcat Emma Wren led the women's team with a time of 21:24.7 and crossed the finish line at 35th.

Returning for the Wildcats from the 2018 NCAA Midwest Regional Championship meet are Schroeder and junior Ethan Powell on the men's team and senior Anna Keeley and sophomore Cayli Hume on the women's side.

Both K-State teams are coming off solid performances at the Big 12 Championships on November 2, as the men's team finished sixth with 150 points, just three points shy of fifth, while the women's team claimed eighth with 214 points in Waco, Texas at the Cottonwood Creek Golf Course.

Redshirt sophomore Jackson Schroeder, who finished 22nd overall in the race at a time of 24:21.2, led the men's team during the 8k race and set a new personal record. Schroeder's time of 24:21.2 during the 8k meet was the best by any Wildcat runner for the men's team since 2004 when Mathew Chesang placed third overall with a time of 24:12.9 during the conference championship.

In the women's 6k race at the Big 12 Championships, freshman Jaybe Shufelberger earned All-Big 12 honors for her 14th place-finish, becoming the first freshman since Stefanie Murer in 2003 to earn a spot on the All-Big 12 Cross Country team. Shufelberger was also the first Wildcat runner on the women's side to medal at the Big 12 Championships since Morgan Wedekind, who placed 10th overall and crossed the line at 21:09.4 in 2015.

The men's team is currently ranked in the top 15 of the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Midwest Region poll at No. 11.

This will be the first competition for the Wildcats at the OSU Cross Country Course since September 24, 2016, when the team competed in the Cowboy Jamboree and placed third amongst the men's and women's races.

Results for the NCAA Midwest Regional will be made available on www.kstatesports.com and K-State Track & Field and Cross Country social media accounts following the conclusion of Friday's races.
