
Wildcats Wrap Up Day One at the Husker Invitational

LINCOLN, Neb. – The Kansas State men's and women's track and field teams wrapped up the first day of competition at the Sevigne Husker Invitational in Lincoln, Nebraska on Friday, where the Wildcats posted two K-State top-10 marks from junior Lauren Taubert and sophomore Shaelyn Ward.
In the women's weight throw, Ward got things moving early, recording the second-best throw of the first round with a throw of 18.79m/61-07.75. Ward later improved upon her initial mark throwing 19.02m/62-05 to secure a spot in the finals, before throwing a personal best 19.35m/63-06 on her fifth attempt to place her fourth overall.
Ward's throw of 19.35m/63-06 moves her into eighth all-time in K-State indoor history. Ward entered Friday's competition with a personal best of 19.08m/62-07.25 set at the 2018 Big 12 Indoor Championship.
Along with Ward, junior Helene Ingvaldsen placed among the top of the weight throw leaderboard, recording a best throw of 20.06m/65-09.75 on her third attempt, which placed her in the finals after fouling on her first two throws. Ingvaldsen's throw went on to place her third overall.
In the Husker Invitational women's pentathlon Taubert improved upon her performance of 3,792 points at the Carol Robinson Winter Pentathlon on December 7th, by breaking the 4,000-point plateau in the event and ranking 10th all-time in K-State Indoor history.
The pentathlon started in the 60-meter hurdles, where Taubert clocked an 8.53 to place fourth in the event and earn 1,010 points. Taubert then went into the high jump portion of the pentathlon, where she tied a personal-best mark of 1.72m/5-07.75, which she previously set at the 2018 DeLoss Dodds Invitational.
In the long jump, Taubert set her second personal best of the evening by jumping 5.72m/18-09.25 on her second attempt, scoring 765 points. Taubert carried her momentum over into the final event of the pentathlon, where she led the field in the 800 meters by winning the event in 2:16.16, finishing the pentathlon with a personal best 4,082 points to place third overall. Taubert's pentathlon score of 4,082 points also ranks 10th in the NCAA this season.
In the men's heptathlon competition, freshman Matas Adamonis and junior Kyle Parr began four of their seven-event competition on Friday, where Adamonis recorded 2,771 points through four events, which stands in seventh place and Parr tallied 2,639 which is good for 11th through the first day of competition.
Adamonis had his best performance of the day in the shot put, where he threw 13.42m/44-00.50 to earn 693 points and place second in the event. One event later, both Adamonis and Parr each cleared 1.91m/6-03.25 in the men's high jump, placing fourth and fifth in the event.
Adamonis and Parr will continue their heptathlon competition on Saturday, beginning at 9:30 a.m. with the 60-meter hurdles, followed by the pole vault, before finishing the competition off with the 1,000 meters.
In the men's 60 meter prelims, senior Tom Pyle and freshman Parker McCafferty each set a personal best in the event, as Pyle ran a 7.06, over his previous best 7.20, while McCafferty inched out a personal best by running 7.17.
In the last event on the track on the evening for the Wildcats, freshman Lavaun Stephenson and sophomore Paige Kimble won their heats in the women's 400 meters, with Stephenson setting a personal best 57.26 in the event to place 15th overall.
