Bulldogs Overpower Wildcats Friday

SAN DIEGO – The Fresno State Bulldogs scored seven runs in the game's first three innings and starter Ryan Jensen yielded one run over six innings in handing K-State an 11-3 loss Friday at Fowler Park on the first day of the Tony Gwynn Legacy.
Fresno State (3-1) jumped out to a 7-0 lead following a five-run third, capped by a two-run home run from Zach Presno, as it scored in six consecutive innings to open a 10-run lead. Jensen limited K-State (2-4) to four hits and kept the Wildcats off the scoreboard until the sixth inning.
Junior Cameron Thompson delivered an infield single with two outs in the sixth to score Dylan Phillips and get the Cats on the board. Freshman Jeffrey Boggess, who came on as a defensive replacement, hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the ninth and had two hits to lead K-State in his collegiate debut.
Fresno State struck first with two runs on three hits in the top of the second inning before its five-run third. In the inning, Fresno State also got a two-RBI double from Miles Tomczak and an RBI single from Nolan Dempsey to chase K-State starter Tyler Eckberg after three innings.
Presno went 3-for-4 with a game-high four runs batted in. Tatum registered two hits with a pair of RBI and Dempsey was 2-for-4 with an RBI and three runs scored.
Eckberg exited the ballgame after three innings, allowing seven earned runs on seven hits. The junior right-hander struck out four and walked one in the loss.
FSU tallied single runs in the next four innings of relievers Quinton Potter, Andrew Stratman and Justin Butz – all of whom made their season debuts – to take an 11-1 lead after seven innings.
Junior-college transfer Luke Bay picked up four strikeouts in keeping Fresno State off the scoreboard, yielding just two hits over the game's final 2 1/3 innings in his first appearance as a Wildcat.
Catcher Chris Ceballos picked up the Cats' first hit, a single in the third inning. Shortstop Thomas Hughes went 1-for-4 with a run scored and third baseman Caleb Littlejim picked up a single. Boggess' homer was K-State's only extra-base hit.
The Bulldogs had six two-out RBI and hit .400 (6-for-15) with two outs. K-State went 1-for-10 with two outs and produced one hit (1-or-7) with runners in scoring position.
