TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Kansas State men's golf team recorded another solid round on Sunday to complete the Seminole Invitational in sixth place at the par-72, 6,965-yard Golden Eagle Country Club.
The Wildcats carded a 4-under par 284 in the final round to finish with a 54-hole score of 7-under par 857. K-State maintained competitive among the leaders, as the Cats finished two strokes behind 29th-ranked Louisville and 11 strokes in front of Kentucky, who finished the invitational in seventh place. K-State's 7-under par performance was the first time the Wildcats finished under par in a 54-hole event since April 2018 in the Missouri Tiger Invitational (-14).
Senior Jeremy Gandon led the way for K-State as he tied for sixth place at 3-under par 213, which included a 1-under par 70 on Sunday to climb four spots on the leaderboard.
"I thought we played really solid today," head coach Grant Robbins said. "We were in contention on the back nine, however we just weren't able to make enough birdies down the stretch. Overall, it was a good week for us. All five guys had under-par rounds this week, which is definitely something we can build on."
Junior Ben Fernandez and senior Roland Massimino joined Gandon in the top 20 as they tied for 16th at 1-under par 215. Fernandez moved 11 spots up the leaderboard on Sunday with a 2-under par 70. Jacob Eklund bounced back on Sunday with a 2-under par 70 as he tied for 42nd at 5-over par 221. JC Campbell finished the invitational 3-over par 219, resulting in a tie for 37th place.
Wake Forest, the fifth-ranked team in the nation, won the Seminole Invitational by shooting 13-under par 851. The Demon Deacons finished one stroke ahead of tournament host Florida State, which carded the best round of the day at 11-under par to move up four spots on the leaderboard. Wake Forest's Parker Gillam and Jacksonville's Thomas Thurloway finished in a tie for first on the individual leaderboard at 8-under par 208.
K-State returns to action, March 4-5, at the Colleton River Collegiate in Bluffton, South Carolina.
