K-State Looks to Build Off Strong Spring Debut
Mar 01, 2019 | Men's Golf
MANHATTAN, KAN. – The Kansas State men's golf team will look to build off its impressive spring debut on Monday and Tuesday during the Colleton River Collegiate, played on the par-72, 7,180-yard Pete Dye Course at the Colleton River Club in Bluffton, South Carolina. The two-day tournament will consist of 36 holes of play on Monday, followed by the final round on Tuesday.
The Wildcats carded a 7-under par 857 at last weekend's Seminole Intercollegiate in Tallahassee, Florida. It was the first time K-State finished a 54-hole event under par since April 2018 in the Missouri Tiger Invitational (-14).
"We are excited to play at Colleton River," head coach Grant Robbins said. "The golf course is world class and one that is very demanding, especially from tee to green. We are looking forward to getting down there a couple days early in order to get some productive practice in."
Senior Jeremy Gandon, coming off of a top-10 finish at the Seminole Intercollegiate, headlines K-State's lineup and will be in the No. 2 slot behind junior Ben Fernandez. Senior Roland Massimino, junior Jacob Eklund and senior JC Campbell will follow. This is the same lineup from last weekend's Seminole Invitational.
Joining the five members on the trip is freshman Will Hopkins, who will compete as an individual. Hopkins last competed at the Steelwood Invitational in October, where he had the best round of his young career with a 3-under par 69.
Joining the Wildcats in South Carolina will be tournament host Michigan State, Bowling Green, Cincinnati, Eastern Michigan, Georgia Southern, Iowa, Iowa State, Memphis, Miami, Oakland, Penn State, Rutgers and Wisconsin.
