Cats Ready to Compete in Mobile Bay Intercollegiate
Mar 27, 2026 | Men's Golf
MANHATTAN, Kan. – Coming off a week's worth of preparation, the Kansas State men's golf team hits the home stretch of the regular season by competing in the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate, Monday and Tuesday, at the Fall Course of Magnolia Grove in Mobile, Alabama.
This is the ninth trip to Mobile in the last 11 years, which includes recent success as the Wildcats finished in third place to open the 2025 spring season in the Hal Williams Collegiate. K-State also had a third-place finish in the 2023 edition of that event, while it finished fourth in the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate in both 2016 and 2022.
"We are looking forward to playing in Mobile," head coach Grant Robbins said. "This is a different course than the one we have played down there in the past, so it is one we may not have as much familiarity with, but I think it will fit our team pretty well. It is very challenging from tee to green and rewards good ballstriking. If you drive it well, you can set up a lot of scoring opportunities. We have had a good week of preparation, and I am excited to see us compete."
The 13-team field in the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate consists of host-school South Alabama along with Delaware, Houston Christian, Loyola Chicago, Marshall, New Orleans, Nicholls, Samford, Texas State, UAB, UCF and Valparaiso.
For the third time this season and first since the Steelwood Collegiate to end the fall season, the Wildcats will use the lineup of seniors Shea Harmeson and Alex Lindstrom, sophomore Fionn Dobbin and freshmen Oliver Toyer and Ville Virkkala. Additionally, senior JP Roller will compete as an individual.
Harmeson returns to the scoring lineup for the first time since the fall finale as he ranks second on the squad with a 73.15 scoring average and a team-leading three top-10 finishes. A transfer from Saginaw Valley State, Harmeson has competed as an individual twice this spring, including a ninth-place finish at The Prestige Individual. He began the 2025-26 season on fire with a tie for second place in the Wildcat Invitational, while he tied for seventh in the Blessings Collegiate Invitational.
Leading the team with a 72.50 scoring average, Lindstrom has been a part of the scoring lineup in all eight events thus far, earning a pair of top-10 finishes. After not cracking the top 40 during the first two tournaments of the spring, Lindstrom earned a tie for 17th place last time out at the Michael A. Marino Classic with a 54-hole score of 1-under par 215.
Dobbin has also been in the scoring lineup in every event this season, holding a 74.05 scoring average. The Lisburn, Northern Ireland, product is coming off a career-best tying mark of 5-under par 211 at the Michael A. Marino Classic, tying for eighth place to also equal a career best. Dobbin is tied for the team lead with Lindstrom by recording eight under-par rounds, while 86.36% of his rounds have counted toward the team score to rank second on the squad.
Toyer is in the scoring lineup for a sixth-straight event and seventh time overall, while Virkkala is making his eighth appearance in the lineup. Virkkala ranks third on the team with a 73.27 scoring mark, just ahead of Toyer's 73.59 mark. Toyer, a native of Cambridgeshire, England, ranks third on the team with seven under-par rounds, while Virkkala, a product of Espoo, Finland, leads the squad by having 86.84% of his 19 rounds count toward the team score.
A native of Jenks, Oklahoma, Roller is making his sixth appearance this season and 32nd of his career over two years at Texas Tech and three with the Wildcats. He holds a 74.86 scoring average this season.
Play at the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate gets underway on Monday morning with a shotgun start to the first 36 holes beginning at 8:30 a.m., as the Wildcats will be paired with South Alabama and UCF. Tuesday's final round also carries an 8:30 a.m. start time. Live results can be followed on SCOREBOARD powered by Clippd.
