K-State Improves Two Spots During Final Round

SADDLEBROOKE, Ariz. – The Kansas State women's golf team carded a 1-under par 287 to move two spots to seventh place during Sunday's final round of the MountainView Collegiate Invitational held at the par-72, 6,227-yard Preserve Golf Club.
The Wildcats were led by sophomore Niamh McSherry, who tied for 10thplace, as K-State edged Houston by one shot with a 54-hole score of 2-over par 866.
McSherry shot an even-par 72 during the final round to lock up her first top-10 finish of the year. She finished at 3-under par 213, tying her career best 54-hole score that she had previously set during last season's Trinity Forest Invitational.
"The team did a great job today," head coach Kristi Knight said. "It was another total team effort. I am proud of Niamh for her top-10 finish. She hit a lot of quality shots. It was good to have the whole team here. I am proud of all of them. We have been on the road a lot the last two weeks."
Sophomore Ella Adams also turned in a fine performance during round three by carding a 2-under par 70. Adams just missed out on a top-20 finish as she tied in 21stat even-par 216.
Chloe Weir carded a 2-over par 218 for the tournament, which included an even-par 72 on Sunday that featured birdies in two of her last three holes, as she tied for 28th. Rounding out the scoring lineup was Reid Isaac and Heather Fortushniak. Isaac, who was 1-over par on Sunday, tied for 33rdat 3-over par 219. Fortushniak, who was a member of the scoring lineup for the first time in her career, tied for 66that 15-over par 231.
Competing as individuals, Darby Deans carded an 8-over par 224 to tie for 52nd, while freshman Briony Bayles tied for 68that 16-over par 232.
Iowa State shot a scorching 20-under par 268 during the final round to come from behind and win the event. The Cyclones finished with a score of 28-under par 836 to top second-place Texas State by 12 strokes. UNLV's Polly Mack maintained her spot in first to clinch the individual title at 10-under par 206.
The Wildcats will be back in action April 1-2, as they travel to Argyle, Texas to compete in the Bruzzy Challenge.
