MANHATTAN, Kansas – Kansas State freshman guard Christianna Carr added her second honor for her stellar play last week, as she was named the United States Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) National Freshman of the Week on Tuesday. This was the second time this season Carr has earned the national rookie honor and is the only freshman in the nation to earn the honor twice this season.
Carr is the first player in program history to earn the USBWA Freshman of the Week honor. Carr is the seventh Big 12 freshman since 2015 and the second this season to garner a national freshman of the week award.
Last week, Carr averaged 15.5 points on a 40.0 percent effort from the field including a 33.3 percent performance from 3-point range. She also averaged 4.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.5 steals.
Against West Virginia, Carr tallied her first career Big 12 games with 20 or more points as she notched 21 points on 6-of-13 from the field including 3-of-8 from beyond the arc. Carr also led the Wildcats with seven rebounds and also dished out two assists and bagged two steals.
In the regular season home finale, Carr dropped in 10 points and pulled in two boards. She added a block and steal to her final line. The consecutive games with 10 or more points marks the first time in league play Carr has tallied back-to-back games with double figures.
In her debut season, Carr is averaging 9.3 points, 2.6 rebounds and 0.9 steals and is second on the team with 48 three-point field goals made.
Kansas State will turn its attention to the 2019 Phillips 66 Big 12 Championships in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, as the Wildcats will play their first game in the quarterfinals on Saturday, March 9. Game time and opponent are yet to be determined.
Saturday's game will be available on FSN and the FOX Sports app. The game can also be heard on the K-State Sports Network, for free at kstatesports.com and on the K-State Sports app.
