
31 Wildcats Recognized on 2019 Academic All-Big 12 Track and Field Team

MANHATTAN, Kan. – 31 members of the Kansas State men's and women's track and field teams were selected to the 2019 Academic All-Big 12 track and field teams, the league office announced on Tuesday, including 24 first team selections, seven second team selections and six individuals nominated with a 4.0 GPA.
In total, 19 individuals were represented on the women's team, while 12 Wildcats were recognized on the men's team. Morgan Coffman (Management and Life Sciences), Alex Ferguson (Nutrition and Kinesiology), Cayli Hume (Nutritional Sciences), Kassidy Johnson (Dietetics), Cara Melgares (Biomedical Engineering) and Ethan Powell (History and Political Science) were nominated with a 4.0 GPA.
Of the 31 selections, three individuals, Morgan Coffman, Ranae McKenzie and Brett Neelly made their third Academic All-Big 12 team, including Coffman's third-consecutive with a 4.0 GPA. In addition, 15 individuals earned their second Academic All-Big 12 honor, including Simone Fassina, Cayli Hume, Joe Gorthy, Travis Hodge, Helene Ingvaldsen, Anna Keeley, Kurt Loevenstein, Shanae McKenzie, Ariel Okorie, Tom Pyle, Konstantina Romaiou, Lauren Taubert, Gabby Tozer, Shaelyn Ward and Logan Wolfley.
In total, 320 student-athletes earned recognition on the 2019 Academic All-Big 12 Track and Field team, including 116 individuals on the men's team and 204 on the women's team. There were 43 individuals that were nominated with a 4.0 GPA.
To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Freshman and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Seniors who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
First team members consist of those who have maintained a GPA of 3.20 or better, while the second team selections hold a GPA of 3.00 to 3.19.
