Wildcats to Represent at Jamaican, Barbados, USATF U20 Championships

MANHATTAN, Kansas – Seven Kansas State track and field student-athletes will be in action at their respective country's national championships this week, including the Jamaican Senior National Championships in Kingston, Jamaica on June 20-23, the Barbados National Championships in Bridgetown, Barbados on June 21-23 and the USATF U20 Championships in Miramar, Florida on June 21-23.

Competing at the Jamaican Senior National Championships are seniors Shardia Lawrence (triple jump), Ranae McKenzie (400-meter hurdles) and Shanae McKenzie (high jump) and juniors Taishia Pryce (long jump) and Jullane Walker (long jump, 200 meters).

Freshman Cooper Schroeder is set to compete in the men's 5,000 meters at the USATF U20 Championships on Saturday, while freshman Antoni Hoyte-Small will compete in the 400 meters at the Barbados National Championships on Friday and Saturday.

This year's NCAA Champion in the women's triple jump, Lawrence makes her fourth-career appearance at the Jamaican Senior National Championships, where she placed third in each of her past three appearances. This year, Lawrence enters the meet after breaking a K-State school record by jumping 13.99m/45-10.75 on her final attempt at the NCAA Championships to win the first women's triple jump title in K-State history on June 8. Lawrence will jump in the triple jump final on Sunday at 5:40 pm CT.

Jumping in her third Jamaican Senior National Championships, Shanae McKenzie looks to top her best performance of 1.70m/5-07, which placed her fourth at the meet in 2016. This year marks her third-career Jamaican National Championship. Shanae McKenzie will jump in the women's high jump finals on Saturday at 7:00 pm CT.

Ranae McKenzie will compete in the women's 400-meter hurdles beginning on Thursday, with the finals being contested on Friday. Ranae McKenzie enters her second-career Jamaican Senior National Championships after placing seventh at the meet in 2016. Ranae McKenzie is coming off her second-straight Big 12 title in the 400-meter hurdles, where she clocked a top time of 56.11 this season.

In the women's long jump, Pryce will make her first appearance at the Jamaican Senior National Championships, after a strong junior campaign with the Wildcats. Pryce was the Big 12 Champion in the long jump, jumping 6.42m/21-00.75 to win the event, while also qualifying for the NCAA Outdoor Championships in the 4x100 meter relay. Pryce will jump in the women's long jump finals at 7:00 pm CT on Friday.

Walker, of Kingston, Jamaica, makes his second appearance at the Jamaican Senior Championships, where he competed in the long jump and 100 meters last year. At the NCAA Outdoor Championships this year, Walker placed 19th overall in the long jump in his first-career appearance. Walker will jump in the men's long jump finals on Saturday at 5:10 pm CT.

Competing in the men's 5,000 meters at the USATF U20 Championships on Saturday, Schroeder will look to improve on his impressive qualifying time of 14:35.82 run at the Ward Haylett Invitational on May 3. Schroeder, who competed unattached during the outdoor season, had a strong freshman campaign during the cross country season, finishing 22nd in 24:51.1 at the Big 12 Cross Country Championship.

Making his debut at the Barbados National Championships, Hoyte-Small looks to make a strong impression in the 400 meters. Hoyte-Small, who competed on Barbado's National Junior teams in 2012, 2014, 2016, 2017 and 2018, concluded his freshman season with the Wildcats, where he broke the K-State 600-yard record at the Big 12 Indoor Championships, running 1:08.59 to place fifth overall.
