
Antoni Hoyte-Small to Compete at Pan-Am U20 Championships

MANHATTAN, Kan. – Kansas State track and field rising sophomore Antoni Hoyte-Small is set to compete in the 2019 Pan-American U20 Championships at National Stadium in San Jose, Costa Rica from July 19-21, where he will represent his native country of Barbados in the 400 meters and 4x400 meter relay.
Hoyte-Small, of St. Michael, Barbados, is one of eight individuals selected to represent the country of Barbados at the Championships, along with 2019-20 K-State signee, Kyle Gale. Gale will also compete in both the 400 meters and 4x400 meter relay on Friday and Sunday.
Following a standout freshman campaign, Hoyte-Small competed at the Barbados National Championships in St. Michael, Barbados, where he placed fourth overall in the 400 meters final, running a 46.95, his second-fastest 400 meter time clocked during the outdoor season.
As a freshman at K-State, Hoyte-Small qualified for the NCAA West Preliminary in the 400 meters after running a personal best 46.92 at the Sun Angel Classic on April 6. During the indoor season, Hoyte-Small ran the fastest 600-yard time of 1:08.59 in K-State history at the Big 12 Indoor Championship, where he placed fifth overall. His time broke the 30-year old school record of 1:08.73 set by Jeff Reynolds in 1979.
The Pan-American U20 Championships enters its 20th year of competition, being contested every two years, dating back to 1980. The Championships features 471 athletes from 31 different countries that will compete throughout the three-day competition.
