MANHATTAN, Kan. – The Kansas State men's and women's cross country teams will travel to Lincoln, Nebraska to compete in the Greeno & Dirksen Invitational on Saturday, September 21 at the Mahoney Golf Course.
Coming off a performance where the men's team finished in second place and the women's team displayed a strong showing on the back end at the JK Gold Classic back on September 7, the Wildcats will look to continue their improvement in their second meet of the season.
The Wildcats get started in Lincoln, Nebraska at 9 a.m., CT beginning with the women's 5k race, followed by the men's 8k race at 9:45 a.m., CT.
"We are looking forward to competing with a more complete squad this coming weekend at the Greeno/Dirksen Invite," stated Head Coach Ryun Godfrey. "This is a new course also and therefore, it will be a new experience for some of our upperclassmen as well. It should be a good test for the group. As always, we look forward to the challenge!"
This will be the seventh time that the Wildcats have competed in the Greeno & Dirksen Invitational dating back to 2005, but the first time at Mahoney Golf Course. The women's team has finished second on three occasions (2007, 2008, 2013), while the men's team finished third in their most recent appearance in 2016.
Current seniors Anna Keeley and Keegan Donahue each participated in the last appearance at the Jay Dirksen Invitational with Keely finishing 26th with a time of 23:22.6 and Donahue finishing 90th with a time of 28:21.9.
The Mahoney Golf Course hosted the 2018 Big 10 Cross Country Championship and consists of long straightaways and rolling terrain for participants. Mahoney Golf Course can be located off 76th and Adams in Lincoln, Nebraska and parking can be found on 70th and Fremont Street in Mahoney Park.
At the JK Gold Classic, the Wildcats claimed seven top-25 finishes amongst the 15-team field. Freshman Jack Thomas on the men's side and sophomore Cayli Hume on the women's side led the way for K-State.
