Jan 30, 2020 | Track & Field
MANHATTAN, Kan. – After another successful home meet that featured team victories in both the men's and women's divisions, the Kansas State men's and women's track and field teams turn up the heat this weekend in Fayetteville, Arkansas for the annual Razorback Invitational, which runs Friday through Saturday.
Â
A prestigious national event held every indoor season, the Razorback Invitational will kick off on Friday at 11:30 a.m., CT with the pole vault competition. Saturday's schedule starts at 10:40 a.m., CT with the second portion of the heptathlon events. Both days will have feature events slated for 6 p.m., CT (Friday) and 1 p.m., CT (Saturday).
Â
"The team is looking forward to the weekend," said Director of Track and Field Cliff Rovelto. "For the most part, we have prepared well and we look forward to competing against very strong competition. If we compete well that is transfer of what has been done in training to the competition."
Â
Looking ahead to the opponents for the weekend, K-State will go head-to-head with 13 other programs. Five conferences make up the landscape of the invitational as the SEC (LSU, Arkansas, Georgia, Florida, Missouri and Auburn), Big 10 (Purdue), Pac-12 (Oregon and Stanford), Big 12 (K-State, Texas, Oklahoma State and Oklahoma) and the MAC (Kent State) will fill out the lineup inside Randal Tyson Track Center. Â
Â
The packed field for the Razorback Invitational will feature five schools on the men's side ranked inside the top 25 of the USTFCCCA poll (No. 2 LSU, No. 4 Texas, No. 15 Arkansas, No. 17 Oregon and No. 24 Missouri). For the women's field, Georgia and Arkansas arrive with No. 2 and No. 3 rankings, respectively. Other Top 25 teams competing include No. 4 Texas, No. 6 LSU, No. 11 Florida, No. 17 Oregon and No. 19 Stanford. In 2018-19, the Arkansas women's team claimed the national championship at the NCAA Outdoor Championships last season.
Â
A few Wildcats have etched their names into the top-10 marks all time at the Razorback Invitational, with returning All-Americans Aaron Booth, Helene Ingvaldsen and Tejaswin Shankar all holding spots in the heptathlon, weight throw and high jump competitions inside the Randal Tyson Track Center through the previous few years.
Â
K-State recently hosted the DeLoss Dodds Invitational back on January 24-25, in which, both the men's and women's teams ran away with the victories at Ahearn Field House. Many top-10 marks were accomplished on the track while other athletes earned personal bests for the duration of the two-day event. The Wildcats posted a total of 17 victories amongst the field and track with a few more earning top spots competing unattached.
Â
Top-10 marks in school history achieved during the DeLoss Dodds Invitational included freshman Oscar Smith (60-meter hurdles, 7.98), senior Lauren Taubert (60-meter Hurdles, 8.45), junior Macy Heinz (800 meters, 2:08.69), senior Kimisha Chambers (400 meters, 54.55), sophomore Jessica Williams (Pole Vault, 3.80m/12-05.50) and senior Cameron Lewis (Shot Put, 17.97m/58-11.50)
