Isaac Named Co-Big 12 Golfer of the Month

MANHATTAN, Kan. – After firing the second-best 18- and 54-hole scores in program history and earning co-medalist honors at the Schooner Fall Classic, K-State's Reid Isaac has been named the Co-Big 12 Golfer of the Month for September, as announced by the league office Wednesday.
Isaac carded thirteen birdies and an eagle over three rounds, including a career-best 5-under 65 in the second, to claim a share of the crown with Baylor's Gurleen Kaur - the Big 12's other honoree for September - in the Schooner Fall Classic at Belmar Golf Club. The senior from Montgomery, Texas, shot par or better in all three rounds - 70-65-70--205 (-5) - for a career-low 54-hole score.
"The talent in the Big 12 is very good, it's a very deep conference, every team is capable of going out and winning championships and winning titles," K-State head coach Kristi Knight said. "There's a lot of really good players in our conference. It's an excellent honor for both Reid and Gurleen to be recognized as Golfer of the Month."
Isaac's honor marks the fourth Big 12 Golfer of the Month award in program history and first since Connie Jaffrey was honored in February of 2017. To claim the honor and a share of her first individual crown since the Trinity Forest Invitational her freshman year, Isaac brushed off a suspended second round due to high winds and topped six top-75 ranked individuals to tie Kaur (ranked No. 46), just the latest hurdles in a challenging start to the fall semester.
"For Reid, it was a combination of things," Knight said of Isaac's tournament success. "She was able to put the ball in play - I don't think she had any penalty shots. She did a really good job of keeping it in the fairway off the tee. She hit a lot of greens or her misses were fairly close to the greens, and she holed a tremendous amount of putts.
"There's a lot more losing in golf than there is winning. That's the nature of it. When you do have the opportunity to win something, it should be really cherished and celebrated. She did a good job of controlling the things that were in her control."
In addition to Isaac and Kaur, the Big 12 recognized men's golfer Logan McAllister, who claimed his second career win at the Colonial Collegiate and helped Oklahoma win the team title.
Isaac and the K-State women's golf team will make the trip back to Oklahoma for the Cowgirl Classic at Karsten Creek in Stillwater, Okla., on Oct. 22-23 to wrap up their abbreviated fall season.
