K-State’s Slow Start Results in (2/2) Baylor Win

WACO, Texas – After a tight matchup in Manhattan in the first meeting, (2/2) Baylor dashed out to a large first half margin to down K-State on Saturday night, 83-58, in the Ferrell Center.
Baylor (27-1, 16-0 Big 12) opened the game with a 10-0 run and held the Wildcats scoreless for the first five minutes. Nalyssa Smith scored six of the first 10 points for the Lady Bears.
K-State (14-13, 8-8 Big 12) crept back into the first quarter, as Angela Harris registered eight of K-State's 12 points and trailed by nine, 21-12.
The Lady Bears widened their lead in the second quarter, by outscoring the Wildcats 23-6 in the frame and enter the locker room with a 44-18 lead. This was the largest halftime deficit for K-State this season.
In the third quarter, K-State outscored Baylor 23-17. The Wildcats used a 9-0 run late in the quarter to pull within 18 following a Christianna Carr three-pointer. Peyton Williams registered 10 points in the frame help cut the Lady Bears' lead to 20, 61-41, entering the fourth quarter.
Baylor closed out the game by winning the fourth quarter, 22-17. K-State's bench registered eight points in the final two and a half minutes, as Laura Macke scored four.
For the night, Harris registered 17 points. This was her 17th game in double figures this season and the 73rd time in her collegiate career.
Williams notched a diverse line with 14 points, five rebounds, five assists and a steal. With her five rebounds on Saturday, Williams set a new school record for rebounds in a senior season with 297 and surpassing the previous record of 292 held by Kendra Wecker in the 2004-05 season.
With their rebound totals on Saturday night, Ayoka Lee and Williams established a new school record for combined rebounds in a season. The duo has 602 rebounds this season, surpassing the previous record of 587 held by Nicole Ohlde and Kendra Wecker in the 2002-03 season.
Lee became the first freshman in school history to surpass the 300-rebound mark in a season. The product of Byron, Minnesota, has 305 rebounds this season. She is just the fifth player in program history to achieve 300 or more rebounds in a season.
K-State ends its final two-game road trip of the Big 12 season on Tuesday, as the Wildcats travel to Stillwater, Oklahoma, to face Oklahoma State at 7 p.m. Tuesday's game can be seen on Big 12 Now on ESPN+ and will be available on the K-State Sports Network and for free at kstatesports.com and the K-State Sports app.
