
K-State Receives National and Regional Honors from CoSIDA

MANHATTAN, Kansas – The Kansas State Athletics Communication department recently received a total of eight national honors and three regional awards for excellence in 2019-20 from the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
With its eight national awards in 2019-20, K-State finished second nationally for overall honors by CoSIDA. During the last 15 years, Kansas State's publications and posters have garnered 43 Top 5 CoSIDA national honors and 56 named among the top three in the district.
The Athletic Communications department, under the direction of Executive Associate Athletics Director for Communications and Public Relations Kenny Lannou, earned Best in the Nation honors in the Postseason Guides category for the 2019 Liberty Bowl guide. The guide was written and edited by Assistant Athletics Director for Communications Ryan Lackey and Lannou. The guide also garnered Best Cover in the Nation for postseason guides. The cover was designed by Graphic Designer Ron Cook.
Over the last 12 seasons, Cook has received over 39 top-10 honors for K-State sports posters, media guide covers and programs/yearbooks.
The 2019 K-State Football Yearbook was recognized with a national runner-up finish in the Special Event Program – University category. The yearbook was designed and edited by Director of Men's Basketball Communications Tom Gilbert and the cover was created by Cook.
Gilbert garnered a second national runner-up finish in the 2019-20 season, as his men's basketball game notes finished second in the Game Notes Winter Sports – University category. Gilbert is a highly decorated member of the department for his men's basketball media guides and notes. This was the third straight season Gilbert's men's basketball game notes have finished among the top-five in the nation in the category.
Additional game notes to finish third in the nation in their respective categories were: women's basketball, women's soccer and baseball.
The 2019-20 women's basketball and 2019 women's soccer game notes were written and designed by Director of Women's Basketball and Soccer Communications Randy Peterson. The women's basketball game notes were the highest ranked women's basketball game notes in the Game Notes Winter Sports – University category, while the women's soccer game notes were the only women's soccer game notes ranked among the top-five in the nation in the Game Notes Fall Sports – University category.
The K-State baseball game notes were designed and edited by Associate Director Chris Brown. This was Brown's second straight top-five honor for his baseball game notes with K-State Athletics Communications.
K-State also had a pair of posters finish third in the nation. The 2019 K-State cross country poster collected a third in the nation finish in the Fall Sport Poster – University category. The 2019-20 K-State rowing poster finished third in the nation in the Winter/Spring Sports – University category.
Kansas State also collected three regional honors in the 2020 CoSIDA/Fred Stabley, Sr., Writing Contest. Former K-State Creative Writing Specialist Corbin McGuire received Best in District 7 honors in the athlete profile category on K-State quarterback student-athlete Skylar Thompson titled "In His Own Words – Keep Surviving," in the Coach/Administration/Historical profile for his piece titled "'The Biggest Impact': AJ Kloss Brings More Than Meets the Eye as Strength and Conditioning Coach" and in the General category with his story titled "The Barry Brown, Jr., Story, as Told by Others."
In May, the K-State Athletics Communications Office earned its second Super 11 Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) award which is based on media accessibility, relationships and operations.
