K-State Baseball Summer Update - August 4

PRO CATS
Evan Marshall, Chicago White Sox
Marshall has appeared six times for the Chicago White Sox in 2020, totaling 5 2/3 inning and 10 strikeouts without allowing an earned run, extending his scoreless streak to 16 1/3 innings dating back to last season. During his scoreless streak, Marshall has limited opponents to a .132 (7 for 53) average with 20 strikeouts. He has not allowed a base hit over his last four outings, a span of four innings pitched and has retired the last 14 hitters he has faced, going back to July 24. Marshall has recorded multiple strikeouts in four of his six appearances, including two strikeouts in an inning in his last game on August 3 at Milwaukee. Marshall is coming off a career year in 2019 with the White Sox, going 4-2 with a career-best 2.49 ERA in 55 relief appearances. He logged a career-high 50 2/3 innings while striking out 41 batters to go with a 1.30 WHIP. Marshall made his MLB debut in 2014 with the Arizona Diamondbacks and has spent time with the Seattle Mariners and Cleveland Indians. Marshall was a fourth-round pick of the Diamondbacks in 2011.

Nick Martini, Philadelphia Phillies
Martini was selected to the Phillies' 60-man Summer Camp roster ahead of the shortened 2020 MLB season. On July 18, Martini was sent to the Phillies' Alternate Training Site in Allentown, Pa., to be part of the team's player pool for the taxi squad. Martini, who spent time with both the Oakland A's and San Diego Padres in 2019, was a non-roster invitee to spring training by the Phillies. In 2019, Martini hit .226 with a home run, four doubles and 14 runs batted in with the A's and Padres. The former Wildcat played 70 games for Triple-A Las Vegas, posting a .328/.432/.482 slash line with eight homers and 42 RBI last season. The former All-American outfielder was a seventh-round selection of the St. Louis Cardinals in 2011.

SENIORS IN 2020-21
Chris Ceballos, Amarillo Sod Squad (Texas Collegiate League)
Playing for the Amarillo (Texas) Sod Squad of the Texas Collegiate League, Ceballos has posted a slash line of .196/.339/.261 in 15 games. Ceballos has reached base safely in seven of his last eight games, including a six-game hitting streak from July 22-30. He hit his first home run and drove in three during a 11-6 victory against the Sod Dogs on July 22. On the year, Ceballos has one homer, seven RBI and six walks with three runs scored. The Sod Squad finished the regular season 21-9 and claimed the North Division title. They will face the Tulsa Drillers in the playoffs beginning August 4.

Kasey Ford, Perfect Timing Red (Perfect Timing College League)
Playing for Perfect Timing Red of the Perfect Timing College League in Springdale, Arkansas, Ford posted a 1-0 record with a 1.54 ERA in four starts. A PT League All-Star, Ford tossed three hitless innings while racking up six strikeouts in his last start on July 6. He has totaled 18 strikeouts over 11 2/3 innings this season with only two earned runs allowed. Over his last 10 innings of work, Ford has struck out 15 batters while yielding just six hits. Cameron Thompson, Perfect Timing Red (Perfect Timing College League) / Waterloo Bucks (Northwoods League)
Thompson began the summer with Perfect Timing Red of the Perfect Timing College League in Springdale, Arkansas. Caplinger is playing for D-BAT Fairbanks of the D-BAT Collegiate League in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. D-BAT Fairbanks was 11-10-1 and were the fourth seed in the postseason tournament (no stats available).

Tyler Eckberg, Mankato MoonDogs (Northwoods League)
Playing for the Mankato (Minnesota) MoonDogs of the Northwoods League, Eckberg has made seven appearances and recorded two saves with 16 strikeouts and a 1.86 ERA (2 ER, 9.2 IP). Daniel Carinci, Rockford Rivets (Northwoods League)
