IOWA CITY, Iowa – Competition continued for the Kansas State women's tennis team at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Central Regional on Saturday (October 23) at the Hawkeye Tennis and Recreation Complex.
"Very pleased with our performance today," stated head coach Jordan Smith. "Felt like today was some of our best tennis as a team this fall, which is really exciting since it came on day three. I am happy that we advanced a singles and doubles to the quarters today. It definitely shows our great depth on both sides to still be competing this late in the event."
Advancing in the doubles draw after an 8-5 victory were freshman Dinara Alloyarova and sophomore Manami Ukita. The pair earned a victory against Big 12 foe Oklahoma State's Martina Zerulo and Alana Wolfberg.
Freshman Florentine Dekkers and senior Ioana Ghoerghita were unsuccessful against Malkia Ngounoue and Maria Titova from Kansas and dropped the doubles matchup 8-3.
Senior Maria Linares was victorious against Alexandra Pisareva from Big 12 Rival Oklahoma. The Venezuela native took down Pizareva in three-sets 6-7(4), 6-3, 6-1. The victory was short lived after Linares dropped in two-sets against Thasaporn Naklo from Iowa State 6-4, 7-6(2).
After winning two matches yesterday in singles, senior Karine-Marion Job kept the momentum going after defeating Barbora Pokorna from Iowa 6-2, 7-5. Job followed the performance with another Wildcat victory by defeating Morgan Cross from Arkansas 6-3, 6-3.
In two sets, senior Rosanna Maffei fell to Oklahoma's Ivana Corley 6-4, 6-4.
