HILTON HEAD, S.C. – Kansas State's Florentine Dekkers took the first set in her match at the International Tennis Federation (ITF) W15 Hilton Head tournament on Monday (October 4) but couldn't maintain momentum and fell to Alisha Reayer.
The freshman took set one 7-5 against Great Britain's Reayer. Set two was all Reayer who won 6-1.
Dekker's wasn't giving up in set three, but ended up being defeated 10-5.
"She competed well for her first match in a tournament like this," said head coach Jordan Smith. "It was good to see her do well in the first set. The focus shifted in the second said and we came up a bit short in the tie breaker. She built from last weekend and I'm excited to see her grow as we get ready for Iowa City."
Up next for K-State women's tennis is the SMU Red and Blue Challenge in Dallas, Texas on Friday (October 8) at the Styslinger/Altec Tennis Complex. The team will be sending freshman Dinara Alloyarova, sophomore Manami Ukita and seniors Karine-Marion Job and Anna Turco.
