Day Three Wins for Women’s Tennis Wraps Up SMU Challenge
Oct 10, 2021 | Tennis
DALLAS – After three days of competition at the SMU Red and Blue Challenge at the Styslinger/Altec Tennis Complex in Dallas, the Kansas State women's tennis team concluded day three with two singles wins.
"I think we maybe had a little bit of a slower start with some of our second doubles and maybe not closing out some singles matches on the first day, but I was really proud how all three ladies responded," stated head coach Jordan Smith. "For them to come back the next day on Saturday and for us to finish third in one of our doubles draws and have another one of our players win her doubles draw playing with someone new for the first time at a different school, is great for us."
In the Mustang Draw, senior Karine-Marion Job finished out the finals bracket with a 7-5, 6-7(3), 10-1 victory over Texas Tech's Avelina Sayfetdinova. This was Job's second victory over a Big 12 singles opponent of the tournament.
"I think it was impressive for KJ to come out and win the top play there at SMU," said Smith. "There are a lot of great players in that draw, and in all the draws, it is great for her to come back from Ole Miss and to respond two weeks later and pull out some really close matches shows a lot of credit that the process is working."
Senior Anna Turco came out with a two-set win over Central Arkansas' Jaeun Lee 6-1, 6-2.
"Anna came back strong today and Dinara pulled out a very strong match yesterday," explained Smith. "I am pleased that we faced adversity and didn't let it get a hold of us."
The Wildcats will take a short break from competition before coming back on Thursday (October 21) for the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Regionals in Iowa City, Iowa.
