Hughes Adds 10 New Wildcats in Fall Signing Period
Dec 02, 2021 | Baseball
MANHATTAN, Kan. – K-State head baseball coach Pete Hughes announced the signing of 10 new Wildcats to National Letters of Intent during the fall signing period.
"I couldn't be more excited about our incoming class," said Hughes, who enters his fourth season as head coach. "Our recruiting coordinator Ryan Connolly and the rest of our staff overcame a lot of restrictions and challenges in the past year and a half to assemble a championship class. There's no staff in the country more organized and thorough in the recruiting process than our staff. The balance and skill level of this class exemplifies the quality of the people we have recruiting for K-State baseball.
"We're very excited about the potential of this group and we are equally as excited about the future and potential of this program."
Hughes, along with assistant coach Austin Wates, pitching game coordinator Buck Taylor and recruiting coordinator/director of baseball operations Ryan Connolly, welcome the incoming class that will join the program next fall.
The class includes right-handed pitchers Mason Buss (Pewaukee, Wisconsin), Logan Dobberstein (Pewaukee, Wisconsin), and Andrew Evans (Olathe, Kansas) to go with left-handed pitcher Cole Wisenbaker (Houston Texas). Position players include shortstop Christian Holmes (Crete, Illinois), infielder/outfielder Deundre Jones (Manvel, Texas), outfielder Cadyn Karl (Edmond, Oklahoma), utility player Matt Lemke (Overland Park, Kansas), catcher Jayden Lobliner (St. Charles, Illinois) and outfielder Carson Queck (The Woodlands, Texas).
The Wildcats return 12 letterwinners from last season's team that went 34-23 and reached the semifinal round of the 2021 Big 12 Baseball Championship. Returners include starters Nick Goodwin, Connor McCullough, Dylan Phillips and Terrence Spurlin.
K-State officially begins its 2022 season at the State Farm College Baseball Showdown at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, home of the Texas Rangers. There, the Cats will take on Arizona, Auburn and Michigan February 18-20.
The Wildcats home opener at Tointon Family Stadium is scheduled for Tuesday, March 8 against Nebraska.
