
Eight Wildcats Named to Academic All-Big 12 First Team

MANHATTAN, Kan. – K-State earned eight selections to the 2020-21 Academic All-Big 12 First Team, including a 4.0 grade-point average from Brynn Carlson, as the conference office announced its annual Academic All-Big 12 Teams Tuesday.
Carlson, who is set to graduate this spring with a master's degree in dietetics, nutrition and kinesiology, was one of 11 student-athletes in the conference to boast a 4.0 grade-point average. Carlson picked up her third Academic All-Big 12 First Team nod, each with a perfect GPA.
Joining Carlson with first-team academic recognition were Teana Adams-Kaonohi, Abigail Archibong, Holly Bonde, Loren Hinkle, Dru Kuck, Jacque Smith and Megan Vernon. Archibong and Vernon will both earn their undergraduate degrees this spring.
Smith earned her third-career academic honor while Archibong and Vernon were both selected for the second time in their respective careers. Adams-Kaonohi, Bonde, Hinkle and Kuck all made their way onto the Academic All-Big 12 First Team for the first time.
K-State has had at least seven first-team honorees in each of the last five seasons. Since 2015, 54 Wildcats have received Academic All-Big 12 accolades with 49 being named to the first team.
First-team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA while the second-team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA. A total of 71 student-athletes were honored as Academic All-Big 12, with 60 first-team selections and 11 members of the second team.
To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 20 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
K-State (13-8, 10-6 Big 12) finished third in the Big 12 during the 2020 season, its highest conference finish since 2008.
