Apr 02, 2021 | Cross Country
MANHATTAN, Kan. – The Kansas State cross country teams received academic recognition from the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) on Friday (April 2), as both the men's and women's groups earned All-Academic Team distinctions, while sophomore Jaybe Shufelberger garnered All-Academic Athlete honors.
After receiving an invitation to the NCAA Cross Country Championships on March 15, Shufelberger tacks on yet another award to add to her trophy case for the 2020 season. The Topeka, Kansas, native has now garnered All-Big 12 Cross Country selections in back-to-back seasons (2019-20) and two academic awards in her career, as she earned Academic All-Big 12 honors during the fall campaign. Shufelberger is currently pursuing a degree in Business Administration and Natural Resource and Environmental Science.
There were 269 total athletes from the women's field who were named All-Academic Individuals in Division I.
Along with Shufelberger's performance in the classroom, the K-State women's team posted a 3.85 GPA for the academic year, which placed them with 254 Division I programs on the women's side.
Collecting a 3.46 GPA for the fall campaign, the K-State men's team earned a spot on the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team, placing them with 219 other programs across all of Division I.
In order to qualify for All-Academic distinctions, teams must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, including the most recent grading period.
To qualify for an All-Academic distinction, student-athletes must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.25 on a 4.0 scale and have either qualified for the national championship meet or finished top-5 at their respective conference championship.
