Senior Logan Frost becomes the rare Big 12 student-athlete to earn Academic All-Big 12 honors five times
MANHATTAN, Kan. – A total of 25 members of the Kansas State women's rowing team were selected to the 2021 Academic All-Big 12 teams, the conference announced Thursday (June 3).
Of the 25 selections, 20 came on the league's First Team, which goes to those student-athletes who post a GPA of 3.20 or higher.
Among the 25 selections were six individuals who achieved 4.0 grade point averages during the 2020-21 academic year, including Ellie Hahn, Madison Jensen, Kate Odgers, Lauren Plum, Marisa Rodriguez and Jessica Schenk. Hahn, Odgers and Schenk have now posted a 4.0 GPA each of the last two seasons (2019-20 and 2020-21).
Senior Logan Frost became the rare Big 12 student-athlete to earn Academic All-Big 12 honors five times in a career, as she was named to the First Team in 2021 after collecting Second Team accolades four times previously (2017, 2018, 2019, 2020). Redshirt junior Taylor Hartman was named to her fourth Academic All-Big 12 team, including her third selection to the First Team (2018, 2020 and 2021).
Three Wildcats – redshirt sophomore Madison Jensen, junior Marisa Rodriguez and junior Morgan Thompson – collected Academic All-Big 12 First Team honors for the third consecutive year (2019, 2020, 2021). Seven other rowers – sophomore Ellie Hahn, sophomore Kaitlyn Henke, redshirt freshman Kelsey Ladlie, sophomore Kate Odgers, redshirt freshman Lauren Plum, redshirt freshman Jessica Schenk and redshirt freshman Lauren Walker – earned First Team accolades for the second straight season (2020 and 2021). Senior Natasha Johnson, sophomore Elizabeth Mummert and redshirt freshman Lisa Zuiderveen were selected for Academic All-Big 12 honors for the second time, including the first time as First Team honorees.
Junior Megan Kelly (Second Team), sophomore Megan Michaelis (Second Team), redshirt freshmen Alyssa Buettner (Second Team), Lindsey DeVreugd (First Team), Alyssa Pemberton (First Team) and Idallis Shaffer (First Team) and freshmen Ashley Cass (First Team), Jadyn Greisen (First Team), Tricia Hokanson (First Team) and Kaylee Kleinschmit (Second Team) were named to Academic All-Big 12 Teams for the first time in their respective careers. Buettner, Cass, Devreugd, Greisen, Hokanson and Pemberton were each selected to the Academic Big 12 All-Rookie teams in 2020.
To qualify for Academic All-Big 12 honors, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Freshman and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Seniors who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
The academic honors highlighted a solid 2020-21 campaign by the Wildcats, who despite their youth and lack of water time, finished third among traditional Big 12 foes (Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas and West Virginia) and fifth overall among affiliate members (Alabama and Tennessee) with 87 points at the 12th Big 12 Championship. The team was able finish 10 points higher than rival Kansas (77) with whom they lost Sunflower Showdown on May 1, while they were narrowly clipped by Oklahoma, 91-87.
Of the 28 student-athletes who competed at the Big 12 Championship, 23 were underclassmen, including 14 who are either redshirt or true freshmen.
