
Shankar Named to CoSIDA First-Team Academic All-District 7

MANHATTAN, Kan. – Kansas State track and field athlete Tejaswin Shankar has earned a spot on the CoSIDA Academic All-District 7 First Team for excelling on the track as well as the classroom, the organization announced on Thursday (July 15).
First-team Academic All-District honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America honorees will be announced in mid-August.
Shankar earned the honor for his excellence in both the classroom and on the track during the 2020-21 athletics season, as he was the NCAA outdoor runner-up and a two-time Big 12 champion in the high jump while earning a 3.45 GPA as he works toward his bachelor's degree in accounting.
The New Delhi, India native is the first Wildcat to receive the honors since Dani Winters in 2016. Overall, he is the 27th K-State track athlete to earn Academic All-District 7 honors since 2002-03.
Shankar was the national runner-up in the high jump at the 2021 NCAA Championships with a height of 2.23m/7-03.75, which he cleared on his second attempt and was one of just four jumpers to clear the mark. A six-time All-American in the high jump, he collected First Team accolades for the third consecutive outdoor championship.
At the Big 12 Outdoor Track and Field Championships, Shankar scored 15 points by collecting his second straight conference title in the high jump with a R.V. Christian Track and Field Complex record height of 2.28m/7-05.75 and a fourth-place finish in the triple jump with a season-best mark of 16.00m/52-06.00.
During the indoor season, the Wildcat earned All-America honors in both the high jump (First Team) and triple jump (Second Team) at the NCAA Championships. He finished third in the high jump at the national meet with a height of 2.24m/7-04.25 and clinched 11th in the triple jump with a mark of 15.97m/52-04.75.
Shankar was the men's Big 12 Indoor High Point Award winner after scoring 21.25 points at the Big 12 Indoor Track and Field Championships. He claimed the high jump title at the indoor conference meet for the third consecutive year with a height of 2.21m/7-03. In the triple jump, Shankar finished second with a mark of 16.09m/52-09.50 and scored points with a fourth-place finish in the 4x400-meter relay (3:08.84) and a seventh-place finish in the long jump (7.10m/23-03.50).
The 2020-21 Academic All-District Men's Track and Field/Cross Country Team, selected by CoSIDA, recognized the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances in the competition realm and in the classroom. The CoSIDA Academic All-America program separately recognizes honorees in four divisions – NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
