Bolding Added to K-State’s 2021 Roster

MANHATTAN, Kan. – K-State head volleyball coach Suzie Fritz announced the addition of Jacksonville transfer middle blocker Sydney Bolding to the Wildcats' 2021 roster on Friday.
Bolding, a 6-foot-5 product of Pickens, South Carolina, comes to K-State after two seasons at Jacksonville where she amassed 344 career kills while hitting .353 to go with 135 total blocks. Listed as a junior, Bolding possesses three seasons of eligibility due to the NCAA's COVID-19 eligibility policy.
"We were hoping to add experience, athleticism, size and depth at the middle blocker position for next season," said Fritz. "We are excited about Sydney's ability to meet all of those parameters. She has made steady progress and had a great deal of success throughout her first two collegiate seasons. We feel as though she is just beginning to realize her potential as an athlete, and her best volleyball is ahead of her. Sydney has the capacity to improve our offensive production in a significant way with her ability to generate kill production. We look forward to her impact on our team's success."
Following the 2019 season, Bolding was named to the ASUN All-Freshman Team and was twice named ASUN Freshman of the Week. She led the conference with a .392 hitting percentage and ranked in the top 10 with 90 total blocks (1.01 per set). Bolding was third on her team with 223 kills (2.51 per set) and 3.08 points a set.
Bolding was tabbed ASUN Player of the Week on March 22 after a career-high 21 kills at a .563 clip and eight blocks in a five-set victory over Stetson on March 17. She followed that performance two days later with 19 kills, five blocks and a .531 efficiency against Florida Gulf Coast. The player-of-the-week honor marked the first for JU since the 2017 season.
Her sophomore season saw her produce 121 kills (2.28 per set), good for second-best on her team. Her 45 total blocks ranked in the top 10 of the ASUN Conference while her 13 solo blocks were tops in the league.
Prior to arriving in Jacksonville, Bolding was a four-time all-region I-4A selection at Pickens High School. Additionally, she was selected to the 2018 CAWS Class 4A All-State Team as a senior and MVP of the North-South All-Star Game.
Bolding will join setter Josie Halbleib, defensive specialist/libero Molly Ramsey, defensive specialist/libero Jaden Ravnsborg and transfer opposite Haley Warner as part of the Cats' 2021 class.
The four newcomers will pair with K-State's 23rd-ranked recruiting class from a year ago in Aliyah Carter, Kadye Fernholz, Tessa Mati, Mackenzie Morris and Jayden Nembhard, according to PrepVolleyball.com.
The Cats will host Kansas City in an exhibition match on Saturday, August 21 at 3 p.m. at Bramlage Coliseum before they officially begin the 2021 season on Friday, August 27 at the Husker Invitational in Lincoln, Nebraska.
K-State ended the 2020 season 13-8 (10-6 Big 12) and in third place in the Big 12 standings, its highest conference finish since the 2008 season.
