KU-KSU-WSU Triangular Welcomes K-State After Break
Jan 12, 2022 | Track & Field
MANHATTAN, Kan. – Coming off a month-long break, the Kansas State men's and women's track and field teams will make their 2022 debut in Lawrence, Kansas on Friday (January 14) for the KU-KSU-WSU Triangular at the Anschutz Sports Pavilion.
Â
The meet will begin promptly at 3 p.m. CT with the women's weight throw and track events will start at 5 p.m. with the women's mile run.
Â
"We look forward to the tri meet with Kansas and Wichita State," stated Director of Track and Field and Cross Country Cliff Rovelto. "Both schools typically have competitive teams with quality athletes in every event area. We strive to do the same. Aside from this meet kicking off our indoor season, I love the 'team aspect' and the fact that this is a combined men and women team scored meet."
Â
During the 2020-21 campaign, K-State took home first place at the KU-KSU-WSU Triangular on January 16, 2021. The team earned 17 victories, earning 261 points and clinched their second straight triangular victory.
Â
"Historically, this meet (originally KSU, KU and Missouri), and more recently the three D1 in state schools, has gone well for us as we have always viewed this meet as important for building our team," said Rovelto. "Many of our distance runners haven't raced since cross country so it will be good to see them race. We are dealing with a few injuries and will have some athletes out this weekend, but we have some athletes who have trained well, made good progress and we look forward to seeing them perform."
Â
The Wildcats have not competed since December 11 at the K-State Winter Invitational at the Ahearn Field House. K-State was originally scheduled to host the Wildcat Invitational on January 8 but canceled the meet due to various circumstances.
