MANHATTAN, Kan. – K-State junior outfielder Dylan Phillips was voted to the 2022 Preseason All-Big 12 Team in a vote of the league's head coaches, the Big 12 Conference office announced Wednesday.
Phillips, who was a 2022 Preseason All-America Third Team selection by Collegiate Baseball, put together a slash line of .333/.422/.643 while leading K-State with 16 home runs and 58 runs batted in a season ago. His home run total tied the single-season program mark, set in 1997 (Scott Poepard, Heath Schesser), and ranked second in the Big 12.
The Omaha, Nebraska, product ranks fourth in Wildcat history with his 31 career home runs while he is seven away from breaking the all-time career mark of 37 set by Poepard (1994-97). Phillips is the Big 12's active leader in career homers.
Phillips earned All-Big 12 Second Team honors a season ago, starting all 57 games last season in the outfield, first base and at designated hitter. He recorded a team-best 15 games with multiple RBI to pair with 31 multi-hit efforts. Phillips began the 2021 season by reaching base safely in 21 straight games and strung together a season-best 10-game hitting streak from March 7-21.
Additionally, Phillips made eight appearances on the mound, including three starts, earning his first career victory against Missouri on April 27. Against the Tigers, he logged two scoreless frames while striking out two and allowing just one hit.
He finished the year with 11 strikeouts over seven innings while walking five.
Phillips is among 11 letterwinners returning from last season's team that went 34-23 and reached the semifinal round of the 2021 Big 12 Baseball Championship. Returners include Nick Goodwin, Connor McCullough and Terrence Spurlin.
K-State officially begins its 2022 season at the State Farm College Baseball Showdown at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, home of the Texas Rangers. There, the Cats will take on Arizona, Auburn and Michigan February 18-20. The Wildcats home opener is scheduled for Tuesday, March 8 against Nebraska.
