Kerr Places First in Long Jump at Texas Tech Open & Multis

LUBBOCK, Texas – On the first day of competition at the Texas Tech Open & Multis, the Kansas State track and field team earned seven top-five finishes with a first-place finish in the men's long jump on Friday (January 28) at the Sports Performance Center.
 
"We had some good things, some other where results that were not great, but showing good signs and some not so good," stated Director of Track and Field and Cross Country Cliff Rovelto. "Tomorrow, we have triple jump, high jump and 200s. We hope to see good things happen in those events."
 
Jumping to a new personal-best and winning the men's long jump was freshman Kavian Kerr with a mark of 7.56m/24-9.75. Freshman Emil Uhlin made his way to a leap of 6.48m/21-3.25 and finished the event in 20th.
 
Out of 23 participants, the Wildcats finished the women's long jump with two top-five finishes. Fifth-year senior Taishia Pryce placed second with a leap of 6.54m/21-5.50. Close behind Pryce in fourth place was fifth-year senior Wurrie Njadoe with a mark of 6.19m/20-3.75.
 
In the women's weight throw section A, sophomore Emma Robbins led the Wildcats in third place with a mark of 20.71m/67-11.50, a new personal-best for the LSU transfer. In sixth place was sophomore Jasmine Greer with a throw of 18.62m/61-1.25 followed by sophomore Emily Fuhr in seventh with a heave of 18.23m/59-9.75. In section B was sophomore Lacey Pavlack, who finished in fifth with a throw of 16.77m/55-0.25.
 
During his sixth and final throw of the men's weight throw, sophomore Kade McCall threw a personal-best mark of 19.98m/65-7.25, placing fourth.
 
Tying for eighth place in the men's pole vault was sophomore Jesse Pinkley, who vaulted to a height of 4.70m/15-5.
 
Junior Vitoria Sena Batista Alves ran in the 60-meter hurdles finals and finished in seventh place with a time of 8.46. Alves advanced to the finals after posting a time of 8.49 in the first rounds and a time of 8.33 in the semifinals.
 
In addition to the long jump, Uhlin also competed in the 60-meter hurdles, finishing 35th out of six heats with a time of 8.55. The Falun, Sweden native did not advance to the semifinals.
 
In his first competition as a K-State Wildcat was freshman Prithviraj Chougule. Chougule ran in the 60 meters and completed the race in 46th overall with a time of 7.10.
 
Recording a time of 55.37 and placing eighth in the women's 400-meter dash was junior O'Shalia Johnson. Senior Lavaun Stephenson closed out the event in 29th with a time of 58.82.
 
Concluding the day was the men's 400-meter dash. Sophomore Kyle Gale led the way in second place with a time of 46.62, while junior Tim Lambert Jr. came in 32nd and had a time of 49.93.
 
K-State will continue the weekend on Saturday (January 29) for day two of the Texas Tech Open & Multis. Competition will begin at 10 a.m. CT with the 60-meter hurdles of the men's heptathlon and women's shot put.
