
Track and Field to Host Five Meets in 2022-23

Indoor season will start on Friday December 9
The K-State track and field team announced its schedule for the 2022-23 season, which will be highlighted by four indoor meets at Ahearn Field House and one outdoor meet at R.V. Christian Track.
HOME IN MANHATTAN
The indoor season begins on Friday, Dec. 9 in the Carol Robinson Women's Winter Pentathlon. The next day, Saturday Dec. 10, is the K-State Winter Invitational.
The only two-day home meet is the DeLoss Dodds Invitational on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 20-21.
K-State will host one more indoor home meet – the Steve Miller Invitational – on Friday, Feb. 17 before heading to Big 12 Indoor Championships in Lubbock, Texas on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 24-25.
The Wildcats will host one outdoor meet at the end of the season on Friday and Saturday, May 5-6.
HIGH-LEVEL SCHEDULE
K-State will participate in eight indoor and outdoor meets prior to the postseason.
The indoor schedule includes the annual KU-KSU-WSU Triangular in Topeka, Kan., on Friday, Jan. 13, the Texas Tech Open & Multis in Lubbock, Texas on Thursday-Saturday, Jan. 26-28, the New Mexico Collegiate Classic in Albuquerque, N.M., on Friday-Saturday, Feb. 3-4 and the Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark., on Friday-Saturday, Feb. 10-11.
The outdoor schedule includes visits to the UTSA Invitational in San Antonio on Friday-Saturday, March 17-18, the Emporia State Relays in Emporia, Kan., on Friday-Saturday, March 24-25, the Texas Relays in Austin, Texas on Wednesday-Saturday, March 29-April 1, the Jim Click Combined Events on Thursday-Friday, April 6-7, the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif., on Friday-Saturday, April 14-15, the Michael Johnson Invitational in Waco, Texas on Friday-Saturday, April 21-22 and the Rock Chalk Classic in Lawrence, Kan., on Saturday, April 29.
POSTSEASON COMPETITION
The Big 12 Indoor Championships will be hosted by Texas Tech on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 24-25. Last season, the Wildcat men finished sixth with 61 points, while the women placed seventh with 56 points.
Two weeks later, the NCAA Indoor Championships will be in Albuquerque, N.M., Friday and Saturday, March 10-11. Last season, three Wildcats competed in the competition, Kassidy Johnson, Taishia Pryce and Tejaswin Shankar.
The Big 12 Outdoor Championships are hosted by Oklahoma on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, May 12-14. Last season, the Wildcats men and women finished eighth with 56 and 41 points, respectively.
The NCAA West Preliminary will be Wednesday-Saturday, May 24-27 in Sacramento, Calif. Last season, seven women and 10 men competed in the three-day event that determines who advances to the NCAA Championships.
This year, Texas will host the NCAA Championships in Austin on Wednesday-Saturday, June 7-10. There was one national champion during the 2021-22 season as Shankar won the men's high jump, while five others – Kyle Alcine, Tommi Hintnaus, Johnson, junior Kade McCall and sophomore Emil Uhlin – earned All-America honors.
NEW COACHES
K-State welcomed two new additions to the track and field coaching staff during the offseason. Randy Cole, the cross country head coach, will oversee the distance runners and Fabien Corbillon will work with horizontal jumpers (long and triple jump).
The Director of Track and Field, Cliff Rovelto, enters his 30th season at the helm at K-State, alongside LaMar Garrett, in his fifth season, Greg Watson, in his seventh overall season with the Wildcats and Karol Rovelto in her 16th year as director of operations.
