MANHATTAN, Kansas – K-State freshman defender Jazmin Brown turned an extraordinary debut season into a postseason honor, as she was named to the Big 12 All-Freshman Team in an announcement by the league office on Tuesday.
Brown is the second Wildcat to earn Big 12 All-Freshman Team honors and the first since Hannah Davis in 2017.
A product of Gilbert, Arizona, Brown set the school record for minutes played in a freshman season, as she tallied 1,476 minutes played in 19 matches with 18 starts. Brown played the full 90 minutes in 12 matches, including the final 11 matches of the season.
As a member of K-State's defensive backline, Brown helped the team set the school records for fewest shots on goal allowed (104) and fewest shots on goal per match allowed (5.5). She also helped the team set the school record for fewest total shots allowed per match (12.5).
On the offensive side of the field, Brown attempted 10 shots with five on goal. She was one of four players with a shots on goal percentage of 50.0 percent or better (minimum 10 total shots).
The Big 12 Conference announced the full end of season awards on Tuesday, as Angela Kelly of Texas was named Coach of the Year, while the Longhorns' Trinity Byars and EmJ Cox received Big 12 Offensive and Defensive Player of the Year honors, respectively. Big 12 Freshman of the Year went to Grace Coppinger of TCU and the Big 12 Goalkeeper of the Year honor was split by Kayza Massey of West Virginia and Jordan Nytes of Oklahoma State.
K-State concluded its seventh season of action with its first appearance in the Big 12 Soccer Championship. The Wildcats tied the school record for wins in a season and were led in scoring by seniors Goins and Caylee Thornhill with 12 and seven points, respectively.
