
K-State Places Six on College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team

MANHATTAN, Kansas – Kansas State soccer placed a program-high six student-athletes on the 2022 College Sports Communicators Academic All-District VII First Team.
The six student-athletes to earn the distinction were: senior Aliyah El-Naggar, senior Bailey Nemechek, senior Caylee Thornhill, junior Maddie Weichel, senior Marisa Weichel and junior Alaina Werremeyer. This was the first career Academic All-District honor for the six recipients.
El-Naggar, a defender from Mason, Ohio, played in 13 matches with nine starts and 822 minutes of action. She notched three shots with two on goal.
Nemechek, a midfielder from Fort Collins, Colorado, played in all 19 matches with 14 starts and 1,191 minutes played. She tallied a goal and an assist with seven total shots including four on goal.
A forward from Lenexa, Kansas, Thornhill established new career season-highs for minutes played (1128), matches played (18), matches started (18), shots (44), shots on goal (15) and assists (3). She tied her career-high for goals in a season (2), as she scored for the second straight season against Kansas.
Maddie Weichel, a defender from Papillion, Nebraska, played in and started all 19 matches. She was one of three K-State field players to register 1,500 or more minutes of action. Weichel carded nine shots with two on goal.
Marisa Weichel, a forward from Papillion, Nebraska, played in all 19 matches with 14 starts and logged 954 minutes of action while seeing time at forward, midfield and defender. She recorded one goal with 14 shots including six on goal.
A goalkeeper from Blue Springs, Missouri, Werremeyer set a number of school records during the 2022 season including: career matches played in goal (42), career starts in goal (41), career minutes in goal (3,794:31), career wins (11), career saves (207), career shutouts (10) and tying the school records for wins in a season (6) and matches played and started in goal in a season (18).
As a program, K-State has been awarded seven College Sports Communicators Academic All-District honors and one Academic All-America citation.
K-State concluded its seventh season of action by making its first appearance in the Big 12 Soccer Championship and tying the school record for wins in a season with six.
