‘Cats Change Course to Seattle for Matchup Against No. 28 Washington

Feb 24, 2022 | Tennis

MANHATTAN, Kan. – The Kansas State women's tennis team will hit the road for the second week in a row and travel to Seattle to take on the No. 28 Washington Huskies on Friday (February 25) at 6 p.m. CT.

"We are excited for another Pac-12 match this weekend," stated head coach Jordan Smith. "Last weekend was a tough one, but we were able to learn and grow from it. Washington is a tournament caliber team, and we need to take advantage of these matches if we want to be playing in May."

K-State (4-2) is on week two of a three-week road stretch. Previously, the Wildcats were in Tempe, Arizona to play Arizona State and will be in Lincoln, Nebraska to play the Cornhuskers after their trip to Washington.

Currently in the all-time series, the Huskies lead the Wildcats, 2-0.

The last time the two teams met was February 14, 2020 when Washington came out on top 4-1.

In that last meeting, securing the only point for K-State from the No. 3 spot in singles competition was then junior Margot Decker, who earned her sixth-consecutive win, extending her career long winning streak in a Wildcat uniform. Decker, who faltered the first set in her match, blazed through Washington's Sedona Gallagher with back-to-back 6-2 set performances to earn the first point of the day.

Filling out the top portion of singles play, juniors Maria Linares and Anna Turco competed hard with the Huskies' Vanessa Wong and Natsuho Arakawa, who were ranked No. 66 and 82 in the ITA polls. Both K-State players dropped their matchups in two sets.
