‘Cats Come Up Short Against No. 7 Oklahoma State on Friday

STILLWATER, Okla. – The No. 53 Kansas State women's tennis team dropped its first Big 12 matchup of the season to No. 7 Oklahoma State, 4-0, on Friday (March 11) at the Greenwood Tennis Center.
"Oklahoma State was too good today," stated head coach Jordan Smith. "We're moving forward towards Sunday (against Oklahoma). We are excited and will be very ready for OU."
Coming up short in the number one doubles spot were seniors Karine-Marion Job and Maria Linares. The pair kept the score close, but ultimately were overpowered by No. 38 Oklahoma State's Mhai Sawangkaew and Martina Zerulo 6-4.
Freshman Florentine Dekkers and senior Ioana Gheorghita faced off against No. 22 Lisa Marie Rioux and Ayumi Miyamoto at No. 2 doubles, but were defeated 6-4.
Tying the match 5-5, at third doubles, before being halted by Oklahoma State clinching the doubles point was freshman Dinara Alloyarova and senior Anna Turco. The duo played Alana Wolfberg and Oona Orpana.
In singles play, Linares dropped to No. 34 Sawangkaew in two sets 6-1, 6-1.
Miyamoto came out victorious over Alloyarova 6-2, 6-1.
Senior Rosanna Maffei could not hold off Zerulo and ended in straight sets 6-1, 6-1.
K-State moves to a record of 6-5 (0-1 Big 12) while No. 7 Oklahoma State increases its record to 10-1 (1-0 Big 12)
The Wildcats will remain on the road to face off against No. 3 Oklahoma on Sunday (March 13) at 12 p.m.
