Women’s Tennis Begins Conference Play on the Road
Mar 10, 2022 | Tennis
MANHATTAN, Kan. – The Kansas State women's tennis team will head back on the road for back-to-back matches, as the Wildcats kick off Big 12 play against No. 7 Oklahoma State on Friday (March 11) and No. 3 Oklahoma on Sunday (March 13).
Friday's match will begin at 5 p.m., CT, while Sunday's match will start at 12 p.m., CT.
"Both programs are doing extremely well to start this year," stated head coach Jordan Smith. "We have a strong tennis league with eight teams nationally ranked. It'll be a tough test, but also allows our team to swing free all weekend."
The Wildcats (6-4) are coming off a week, in which, they went 2-1 against Big Ten squads, including consecutive wins over No. 68 Nebraska (4-1) and Iowa (4-3) before a 4-2 loss to No. 42 Northwestern.
Senior Maria Linares went 6-0 during the three matches. The Venezuela native did not back down against all of her opponents and helped lead the Wildcats to two victories.
Linares and senior Karine-Marion Job swept Iowa's Vipasha Mehra and Samantha Mannix, 6-0, and took down Northwestern's Clarissa Hand and Briana Crowley 6-4.
After being on the road to Stillwater and Norman, K-State will return to Manhattan for six matches at the Mike Goss Tennis Stadium. Kicking off the homestand will be No. 34 Texas Tech on March 18, followed by No. 71 TCU on March 20.
