MESA, Ariz. – The Kansas State women's golf team is in 15th place after 18 holes on Friday at the Clover Cup, hosted by Notre Dame, at the par-72 6,184-yard Longbow Golf Club.
The Wildcats carded an 18-over par 306 first round.
"A few holes held us back today," head coach Kristi Knight said. "We picked a double here and there that hurt our overall score. We were not able to take advantage of the par 5's. All of them presented birdie opportunities."
Leading the Cats on the leaderboard is sophomore Napua Glossner and junior Haley Vargas, who are tied for 43rd place after tallying a 4-over par 76 opening round.
Just one shot behind them at 5-over par 77 and in a tie for 55th place is freshmen Remington Isaac and junior Manon Donche-Gay.
Briony Bayles, a senior from Durham, England, is in 88th place at 11-over par 83.
No. 31 TCU holds a two-stroke lead among the 17-team field, which includes nine ranked opponents, thanks to a 4-under par 284 first round. Ingrid Linblad of LSU is out in front on the individual leaderboard at 7-under par 65 after 18 holes.
"We have an opportunity tomorrow to be better," Knight said. "There are a lot of positives from today to build upon. A lot of golf left."
K-State will look to make up some ground when play resumes with the second round beginning Tuesday morning. Fans can follow live scoring on Golfstat.com.
