No. 50 K-State Drop Conference Match to No. 33 Iowa State

MANHATTAN, Kan. – The No. 50 Kansas State women's tennis team made a comeback in singles against No. 33 Iowa State on Friday (April 1) before falling 4-2 at the Mike Goss Tennis Stadium.
After falling behind 3-0 in the match, the Wildcats (8-9, 0-5 Big 12) won on courts one and six for singles play, but the Cyclones (12-3, 2-3 Big 12) clinched the match with a straight-set win at No. 3 singles.
ISU opened the match by winning the doubles point with victories at the No. 1 and No. 3 positions.
At the number one spot in doubles, seniors Karine-Marion Job and Maria Linares dropped to Thasaporn Naklo and Christin Hsieh, 6-2. The Cyclone pair of Ange Oby Kajura and Chie Kezuka had control against freshman Dinara Alloyarova and Manami Ukita and won 6-2.
Earning a singles point for K-State was Linares at the number one spot. The Venezuela native maintained her composure and was victorious against Naklo, 6-4, 6-3.
Senior Anna Turco was successful at the No. 6 position as she conquered Sofia Cabezas, 6-4, 6-3.
On court two, Job was overpowered by Kajura from Iowa State 6-1, 6-2.
A late point by Ukita in the second set was not enough, as she was taken down by Kezuka, 6-0, 6-1.
Dekkers made an attempt to go into three sets to make a comeback for the Wildcats, but came up short against Miska Kadleckova, 6-3, 7-6 (6-1).
Next up for the Wildcats is Senior Day on Sunday (April 3) at 12 p.m., CT against West Virginia (7-11, 0-4 Big 12) at Mike Goss Tennis Stadium. There will be a celebration for seniors Linares, Turco, Job and Gheorghita prior to the match.
