No. 50 K-State Sweeps WVU on Senior Day

MANHATTAN, Kan. – The No. 50 Kansas State women's tennis team celebrated Senior Day by blanking Big 12 rival West Virginia, 4-0, on Sunday (April 3) at the Mike Goss Tennis Stadium.
K-State won its first conference match of the season and moved to a record of 9-9 overall (1-5 Big 12), while WVU dropped to 7-13 and 0-6 Big 12 play.
"It feels great," stated head coach Jordan Smith. "Getting our first Big 12 win and it being on Senior Day honoring our four ladies, it's awesome. I think it has been a long time coming getting this Big 12 win and the fact that it came on a day like today, hopefully it inspires us to keep going and energizes the rest of the season."
The Wildcats won the doubles point then clinched the match with straight-set wins at No. 1, 2 and 6 positions.
Earning the first portion of the doubles point were seniors Maria Linares and Karine-Marion Job. The pair took down Camilla Bossi and Ting-Pei Chang from West Virginia 6-4 at the number one spot.
Clinching the doubles point for the Wildcats was freshman Dinara Alloyarova and sophomore Manami Ukita. The duo had a battle against Anastasia Bovolskaia and Tatiana Lipatova. The set ended up going into a tiebreaker with the 'Cats walking away victorious 7-6(4) at the number three spot.
Doubles pair of freshman Florentine Dekkers and senior Ioana Gheorghita tried to keep up with WVU's Momoko Nagato and Kendall Kovick but fell 6-4.
Job claimed the first singles point for the Wildcats as she overcame Bovolskaia in two sets, 6-1, 6-2.
Linares came out strong on court one in singles, defeating Kendall Kovick, 6-2, 6-0.
Closing out the match was senior Anna Turco on court six. The Mondovi, Italy native was in control over Lipatova and ended up victorious, 6-4, 6-3.
K-State will hit the road for the final time this season as the Wildcats take on No. 23 Baylor (13-6, 4-2 Big 12) on Friday, April 8 in Waco, Texas and then No. 4 Texas (14-4, 5-1 Big 12) on Sunday, April 10 in Austin.
