No. 52 K-State Falls Short to No. 21 Baylor 4-1

WACO, Texas – The No. 52 Kansas State women's tennis team dropped their first match of the weekend, 4-1, on Friday (April 8) against No. 21 Baylor at the Hurd Tennis Center.
No. 52 Wildcats fell to a record of 9-10 (1-6 Big 12), while No. 21 Bears improved to 13-6 (4-2 Big 12).
Earning a singles' point for K-State was No. 120 senior Maria Linares. The Venezuela native was victorious over Baylor's Isabella Harvison, 6-4, 6-4, in the number one spot.
Putting up a fight against Alina Shcherbinina in singles was senior Ioana Gheorghita. The senior fell in set one, 6-4, but forced Shcherbinina into a tiebreaker in set two before falling, 7-6(3).
Senior Anna Turco couldn't keep up and was taken down, 7-5, 6-3, by Baylor's Paula Baranano.
Closing out singles was senior Rosanna Maffei. Anita Sahdiieva from Baylor was successful in the end and was too much for Maffei, 7-5, 6-3.
In doubles play, duo sophomore Manami Ukita and freshman Dinara Alloyarova tried to keep up with Baylor's AC Zamburek and Anita Sahdiieva but fell short and were defeated 6-3.
Linares and senior Karine-Marion Job were overpowered by the No. 3 tandem of Mel Krywoj and Alicia Herrero and dropped the final doubles match, 6-1.
K-State will head off to Austin, Texas to play one more conference match on Sunday (April 10) against No. 4 Texas at the Texas Tennis Center at 12 p.m. CT.
