Apr 06, 2022 | Tennis
MANHATTAN, Kan. – The No. 52 Kansas State women's tennis team will travel to Texas this weekend for Big 12 matchups against No. 21 Baylor on Friday (April 8) and No. 4 Texas on Sunday (April 10).
Both matches will commence at 12 p.m.
"These next three matches are big for our program," stated head coach Jordan Smith. "It will be tough matches, of course. However, if we enter with the same mindset we just had against WVU, then I believe more conference wins are coming for this team. Regardless of any ranking. We have an incredible group of ladies on this team and I think they have another gear or two higher to show in them. We just need to continue to stay true to ourselves and bring the energy."
No. 52 K-State (9-9, 1-5 Big 12) enters the weekend with wins in three of its last four matches, including a 4-0 victory over West Virginia on Sunday at home.
Going into the weekend, No. 120 senior Maria Linares is 12-2 on the season for singles play, 3-1 in Big 12, while being undefeated at the number one (4-0) and number three (3-0) positions.
Last weekend, Linares won in straight sets in both of our singles matches, defeating Iowa State's No. 66 Thasaporn Naklo, 6-4, 6-3, before a 6-2, 6-0 victory over West Virginia's Kendall Kovick.

In doubles, senior Karine-Marion Job and Linares are 5-4 on court one and 4-1 on court two.
Baylor (13-6, 4-2 Big 12) enters the weekend on a two-match skid after losses to Top 15 teams Oklahoma and Oklahoma State, while Texas (14-4, 5-1 Big 12) split matches against the Cowgirls and Sooners last weekend.
