Five Wildcats Named to Academic All-Big 12 First Team
Apr 13, 2022 | Women's Golf
MANHATTAN, Kan. - For a third-consecutive season, the Kansas State women's golf team had its entire eligible roster honored by being named to the Academic All-Big 12 list with each of the five student-athletes earning first-team selections, the conference announced on Wednesday.
Briony Bayles, Heather Fortushniak, Napua Glossner, Gabriela McNelly and Haley Vargas all were rewarded for their hard work in the classroom. They each maintained a 3.20 or higher GPA, which is the requirement for first-team qualification.
"I'm proud of these ladies and the success they are having in the classroom," head coach Kristi Knight said. "Job well done!"
Freshmen and transfers are not eligible for selection in their first year of academic residence. Other eligibility requirements include a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or in the two previous semesters, along with competing in 20 percent of their team's scheduled contests.
Both senior Wildcats — Bayles and Fortushniak — are making their third straight first team appearance and have now qualified in each season in which they were eligible. This is the first appearance for sophomores Glossner and McNelly, while it's now back-to-back first-team selections for Vargas
K-State tied for the second most first team members in the conference with Oklahoma State.
The conference included 43 women's golfers on the list with 36 members on the first team and seven on the second team.
K-State has concluded its regular season and is preparing for postseason play, which will commence with the Big 12 Championship, April 22-24, at the Houston Oaks Golf Club in Houston, Texas.
