May 01, 2022 | Women's Golf
MANHATTAN, Kan. - The 2022 PGA Works Collegiate Championship will feature two members of the Kansas State women's golf team — Haley Vargas and Gabriela McNelly — as they've been accepted to compete in what is recognized as the most culturally significant event in college golf.
The three-round, 54 hole event, which is open to both men and women minorities, will be held Monday through Wednesday at the Union League Golf Club in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Vargas and McNelly will play two different courses at the club as members of the women's individual division that includes 24 golfers.
"I'm excited for Haley and Gab," head coach Kristi Knight. "This event is not only a great competition but also a valuable life experience. I'm proud they were accepted into the field."
The experience also includes a special networking event, Beyond the Green, where competitors are able to learn about career opportunities within the PGA of America.
Vargas, a junior from Lubbock, Texas is coming off a season that saw her make nine appearances and accumulate the second best stroke average on the team (75.33), while McNelly, a sophomore from Mico, Texas competed at seven events and captured two top-20 finishes.
Play in Philadelphia will begin each day at 7:30 a.m. Fans can follow these Wildcats' scores throughout the tournament on Golfstat.com.
