28 Individuals Named to Rowing Academic All-Big 12 List

MANHATTAN, Kan. – A total of 28 members of the Kansas State women's rowing team were named to the 2022 Academic All-Big 12 First Team and Second Tean, the conference announced on Tuesday (May 17).

"We are proud of how our team has kept the academic standard high and has continued to do so each year," said head coach Patrick Sweeney. "Our athletes work hard in training and competition. It's impressive to see that same level of commitment to success in academics."

A total of 143 members are from Kansas, Kansas State, Oklahoma, Texas and West Virginia, while the remaining 65 are from the league's two affiliate members in the sport - Alabama and Tennessee.

The first team is comprised of 198 honorees, while the second team totals 10.

Among the 28Â selected, two individuals achieved 4.0 grade point averages during the 2021-22 academic year. Those two individuals were seniors Kate Odgers and Jessica Schenk.

Senior Madison Jensen collected her fourth consecutive Academic All-Big 12 First Team honors (2019, 2020, 2021, 2022). Seven rowers – junior Ellie Hahn, senior Kaitlyn Henke, senior Kelsey Ladlie, Odgers, senior Lauren Plum, Schenk and senior Lauren Walker – earned First Team accolades for the third consecutive year. Senior Elizabeth Mummert collected her second First Team accolade and third Academic All-Big 12 honor.
On the Academic All-Big 12 Second Team, sophomores Paige Fox and Rachel Harman have been honored. This is their first Academic All-Big 12 accolade.

To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 20 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.

K-State women's rowing wrapped up the 2021-22 season on May 15Â at the Big 12 Championships. The Wildcats finished sixth with 40 points, while junior Megan Michaelis of the First Varsity Eight was selected for All-Big 12 accolades.
