Bacianskaite Concludes 2022 NCAA Outdoor in Heptathlon
Jun 11, 2022 | Track & Field
EUGENE, Ore. – After two days of competition, seven events and a lot of rain, junior Urte Bacianskaite closed out the 2022 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday (June 11) at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon.
The Lithuania native earned 4,608 points and finished in 22nd.
"From a year ago, Urte is a completely different athlete in a good way," stated Director of Track and Field and Cross Country Cliff Rovelto. "What is exciting for her is that she still has a great deal of room for improvement. She really hung in there."
After fouling three times in the long jump section, Bacianskaite came into the javelin throw with a bang. Her first attempt reached a mark of 37.42m/122-9 while her second attempt was only to 35.71m/117-2. Bacianskaite made her third throw her best one and had a heave of 39.76m/130-5, coming in eighth place overall and earning 663 points.
Bacianskaite was just .22 seconds away from her personal best in the 800-meter run. Clocking in at 2:27.69, Baciansiate ended in 18th place.
"I believe a majority of the athletes placed higher than they were ranked coming in which is indicative of competing well," said Rovelto. "For a number of them, this was their first experience at the national meet, and they will be better for it when they return."
K-State concluded the 2021-2022 season with three All-American honors in the indoor season and six All-American recipients for the outdoor season. The Wildcats competed in a total of 25 meets during the season including two national meets and one regional meet.
