
Shankar Named USTFCCCA Midwest Region Men’s Field Athlete of the Year

MANHATTAN, Kan. – Kansas State fifth-year senior Tejaswin Shankar has been named the USTFCCCA Midwest Region Men's Field Athlete of the Year, announced on Thursday (June 16) by the organization.
Shankar recently was crowned the 2022 NCAA High Jump champion at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Oregon on June 10.
After a sudden death jump off between Shankar and Georgia senior Darius Carbin. The duo fouled three times at the height of 2.24m/7-4.25 and had the same number of misses, forcing a jump off. The high jump bar was moved up to 2.27m/7-5.25 and Shankar cleared on his attempt while Carbin missed, immediately earning Shankar the championship.
This was Shankar's second outdoor national title (2018, 2022) during his career at K-State, while he was the national runner-up in 2019 and 2021. He finished with eight All-American honors in the high jump (combined indoor and outdoor), including a four-time First Team Outdoor All-American.
Shankar also tied for first at the NCAA West Preliminary in Fayetteville, Arkansas with Oklahoma's Vernon Turner. Both Turner and Shankar cleared 2.18m/7-0.50m qualifying both for the NCAA Championships.
The New Delhi native placed second at the 2022 Big 12 Indoor Championships in the high jump and earned third in his first career decathlon with a score of 7,592 points at the Big 12 Outdoor Championships.
During the 2021-22 track and field season, Shankar competed in the high jump a total of eight times, three times in a multi event and five times in an individual event.
Shankar also earned his fourth Academic All-Big 12 First Team honor on May 3 and was recognized on the CoSIDA First Team Academic All-District 7, alongside junior Kassidy Johnson, on May 27 for the second time in his career.
