
Kassanavoid to Compete at World Championships

The K-State alumna finished second at the U.S. Championships in late June
MANHATTAN, Kan. – K-State alumna and current volunteer coach Janee' Kassanavoid will compete in the women's hammer throw for Team USA this weekend at the World Athletics Championships, which run from Friday-Sunday, July 15-24 at historic Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon.
Kassanavoid will throw 10th in Group A in the qualification round on Friday afternoon (July 15) at 2:05 p.m., CT. The top-12 individuals or any athlete who achieves an automatic qualifying mark of 73.50m/241-1 will advance to the final, which is set for Sunday (July 17) at 1:35 p.m., CT.
Kassanavoid currently ranks fifth in the world in the event after posting a personal-best throw of 78.00m/255-11 at the U.S. Track and Field Throws Fest on May 21 at Drachman Stadium in Tucson, Ariz. She has thrown better than 73 meters in five of six outdoor meets this spring, including better than 75 meters in each of the last four.
Kassanavoid qualified for the World Championships after finishing second in the event at the U.S. Outdoor Track and Field Championships in late June. She opened the championships with a throw of 75.59m/248-0 to advance to the finals then posted a mark of 76.04m/249-6 to finish second overall in the finals.
A native of Lawson, Mo., Kassanavoid competed for the Wildcats from 2015-18, twice earning the Big 12 title (2017, 2018) in the event while she was a three-time All-American (2016, 2017, 2018), achieving First Team honors in 2017. She set the school record in the event with a toss of 68.21m/223-09 at the 2018 Big 12 Championships.
