
K-State Athletics Comms Tops the Nation in CoSIDA Honors

MANHATTAN, Kansas – The Kansas State Athletics Communications department was heavily honored in the 2021-22 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Publication & Digital Design contest, as K-State was tops in the nation with 18 total awards including a high of nine "Best in the Nation" awards, four "Second in the Nation" honors and two best cover designs.
During the last 17 years, Kansas State's publications and posters have garnered 64 Top 5 CoSIDA national honors and 74 named among the top three in the district.
The K-State Athletics Communications Office is led by Executive Associate Athletics Director for Communications and Public Relations Kenny Lannou and Associate Athletic Director for Communications Ryan Lackey. The Office also features Director of Men's Basketball Communications Tom Gilbert, Director of Women's Basketball and Soccer Communications Randy Peterson, Associate Director Chris Brown and Assistant Alissa Volante.
The K-State Athletics Communications Office also includes the talents of Emily McMillan, Director of Creative Services, and Ron Cook, Director of Football Graphic Design. McMillan, during her time as a CoSIDA member, has collected nine publications honors from the organization.
Over the last 14 seasons, Cook has received over 43 top-10 honors for K-State sports posters, media guide covers and programs/yearbooks.
The 11 "Best in the Nation" honors included: the women's soccer media guide, the cover of the soccer guide, the 2021 soccer poster, the men's basketball media guide and game notes, the women's basketball media guide and the women's basketball postseason media guide, the baseball media guide and game notes and the volleyball media guide cover.
The four "Second in the Nation" honors included: the volleyball game notes, fall at-large media guide for the 2021 K-State football yearbook, the 2021 football poster and the 2021 cross country poster.
K-State also collected three third-place honors for the football game notes, the women's basketball game notes and the 2021-22 women's tennis poster.
Designed and edited by Gilbert, the 2021-22 men's basketball media guide and game notes "Best in the Nation" honors added to the career haul for Gilbert, as he has finished in the top five in the nation for his men's basketball media guides numerous times.
Peterson collected three "Best in the Nation" honors and a third-place effort, as he designed and edited the 2021-22 women's basketball media guide and women's basketball postseason guide and collected the first national honor for the women's soccer media guide. His 2021-22 women's basketball game notes were third in the nation.
Brown garnered two "Best in the Nation" citations and a national runner-up honor, as his 2022 baseball media guide and game notes were tops in the nation and his 2021 volleyball game notes were second. This was Brown's fourth straight top-five honor for his baseball game notes.
Lackey received a second-place honor in the fall at-large category for the 2021 football yearbook and a third-place honor for his football game notes, an honor he also received in 2019.
In addition to leading the nation in the 2021-22 CoSIDA Publications and Digital Design contest, the K-State Athletics Communications Office recently collected its third straight Super 11 Award and its fourth since 2015 from the Football Writers Association of America. The award is based on media accessibility, relationships and operations.
