K-State Fall in First Match to North Florida

MANHATTAN, Kan.- The K-State women's tennis team fell to North Florida, 4-0, on Saturday (January 21) in the opening match of the spring season at the Kimberly V. Strauss Tennis Center in Boca Raton, Fla.
North Florida (1-1) won the doubles point and three singles matches to clinch the win.
The day started with doubles matches as sophomore Florentine Dekkers and junior Manami Ukita in the number 1 position were outlasted by Kit Gulihur and Ana Paula Melilo 3-6. At the number two position was freshmen Rozalia Gruszczynska and Vanesa Suarez being defeated 3-6.
In the number 6 spot Ukita fought back in the second set losing to Kendall Nash 6-1, 6-4.
Dekkers competed in a tiebreaker in her second set against Kit Guilihur, being defeated 6-2, 7-6 (5), at number one singles.
Suarez was defeated by Annabelle Davis 6-3, 6-2, at number two singles, and clinching the match for North Florida.
Senior Rosanna Maffei (number four) and freshman Maria Santos (number five) both split their matches 6-4 and 6-1 against their respective opponents, but both went unfinished, along with Gruszczynska (number three singles)
The Wildcats face Florida Atlantic tomorrow (2-0) at 10 a.m. CT at the Kimberly V. Strauss Tennis Center in Boca Raton, Fla.
